Nintendo has discontinued production of the NES Classic

Posted on April 14, 2017

Originally reported on by IGN, it has been revealed that Nintendo has ceased the production of their NES Classic console in multiple territories (including Australia.)

In an interview with IGN, a Nintendo representative made the following statement:

“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.”

Despite the product’s popularity, it appears Nintendo no longer intends to offer classic NES games to those who were unable to purchase the scarcely accessible console.

A report from Vooks has revealed that the discontinuation will be in effect for Australia too, if their sources can be trusted. We are still waiting on word from Nintendo themselves for the official confirmation.

Unfortunately, if you are still actively looking to purchase the NES Classic your window of opportunity appears to be closing.
