Beamdog classics like Baldur’s Gate are set to finally hit consoles this year

In news that ought to be exciting for fans of role-playing games, it’s been announced that Beamdog have partnered with publisher Skybound Games to release several titles from their gaming catalog onto consoles for the first time beginning this year. Beamdog are known for games such as the Baldur’s Gate series, Neverwinter Nights and Planescape: Torment, all of which have been received well on PC, evidenced by their reception on Steam.

Six titles have been announced as part of this partnership, all of which will be released as Enhanced Editions,  featuring improved gameplay elements, graphics and music.
The full line-up is as follows:

  • Baldur’s Gate
  • Baldur’s Gate II
  • Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear
  • Icewind Dale
  • Planescape: Torment
  • Neverwinter Nights

The games are also confirmed to be receiving physical editions at retail, however the platforms they’ll be coming to and the contents of these physical editions hasn’t yet been revealed. Skybound Games plans to announce these details later in the year through their social media channels, so eager fans should take a look in order to hear the latest on these developments.

Skybound and Beamdog seem set to make a great team if their comments about the other are any indication. Skybound CEO Ian Howe is quoted as saying “We’re excited to bring Beamdog’s incredible slate to new platforms … it’s fantastic to partner with Beamdog as the newest member of the Skybound family,” while Beamdog’s CEO, Trent Oster stated “We’re thrilled to find ourselves working with such a talented group.” For fans of classic RPGS, this is set to be a match made in Heaven.
