To call me a Harry Potter fan would be something of an understatement. And whenever new content surrounding J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world is announced I swear I could produce the world’s best patronus. Jam City, an L.A. mobile game development company, in association with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have just dropped the first gameplay trailer for their upcoming mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery!
According to co-founder and CEO of Jam City, Chris DeWolfe “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is a role playing experience about magic, friendship, and life as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry”. He goes on to say “We can’t wait to give fans a first look at the game at A Celebration of Harry Potter, and this spring players will be able to explore Hogwarts fully in their journey toward becoming a witch or wizard.”
Now even though I’d still like to think Rowling has an Australian Wizarding School hidden somewhere in the Outback, who here doesn’t want to explore the hallowed halls of Britain’s prestigious school?!
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will be set in the time between Harry Potter’s birth and his enrolment, when other integral Harry Potter characters such as Nymphadora Tonks and Bill Weasley were at Hogwarts. The avatar customisation system will allow players to regularly upgrade their avatar as new spells and expertise is gained – they’ll even be able to choose their own pet! After being sorted into one of the four houses, players will get to participate in magical classes, such as Potions, and Transfiguration. New areas to explore, and spells to cast will be unlocked as players hone their skills.
Despite it being a mobile game, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will feature both large plot arcs and smaller tales within. It will also showcase a new encounter system in which a player’s interactions and decisions in-game will impact the narrative and other factors such your avatars future interactions.
While no exact date has been announced as to when Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will be released, we do have a tentative release window of Spring 2018. After seeing the trailer and hearing about the game I can’t wait for this one to be released already. I just hope they put me in Gryffindor when I put the sorting hat on!
