Marvel Rivals Season 3 brings a battle against darkness, with two new playable heroes

Posted on July 3, 2025

Refusing to slow down, Marvel Rivals is setting the stage for its next season of content. A new trailer established the seasonal theme: a conflict between the symbiote god Knull (accompanied by an empowered Hela) and the cosmic entity Phoenix. With an intergalactic battle between life and death, Marvel Rivals is certainly going big for its third season.

The new season will add two new heroes to the roster. The first is Phoenix, a godlike being that inhabits the body of X-Men member Jean Grey. Phoenix will be a dualist hero who uses powerful flame blasts and rapid movement. The abilities trailer shows Phoenix having access to quick dashes, limited flight and an ultimate dive bomb power. Her animations show Phoenix accompanying Jean and merging together when using powers, a delightful detail which shows the two minds of the hero.

Season 3 will also finally see the debut of Blade, after being teased in prior trailers. A vampire hunter who is half-vampire himself, the hero is a perfect choice to accompany Phoenix’s battle against evil. Blade releases halfway through the season, which is expected to be roughly one month in. We’ve yet to see any gameplay of Blade, so we’ll have to stay tuned to see what role and abilities he’ll bring to the table.

A new map is also coming soon. “Klyntar: Celestial Husk” is the utterly corrupted home base of Knull. The planet is hollow and covered in dark ooze, a rich aesthetic which will surely please fans of symbiote characters.

Through cosmetics, the previous heroes are choosing sides between Phoenix & Knull. This season’s battle pass features Venom-themed outfits for characters such as Squirrel Girl & Jeff the Land Shark. Heroes will also be able to support the gods with new team-up abilities. One example sees Phoenix infusing Wolverine with Phoenix Force, buffing his attacks with flames & lifestealing.

Marvel Rivals Season 3 launches Friday July 11th 2025, with Phoenix immediately playable. In preparation, a balance patch was released earlier today, tweaking several heroes’ powers and abilities.
