Posted on April 17, 2017

XSEED games has announced that Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, set within the Fate universe, is coming to Nintendo Switch. Following a successful launch on both the Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita systems, the Switch version will come pre-loaded with 35 previously paid costumes, as well as an exclusive new Unshackled Bride outfit .

Background:

Developed by Marvelous Inc, Fate/ EXTELLA: The Umbral Star features a cast of 16 playable Servants, legendary warriors of the past summoned by their Masters to participate in the Holy Grail War. A vicious affair of might and magic, the Master who seizes victory lays claim to the Grail and the wish it will bestow. This story takes place after the events described in Fate/EXTRA, and depicts the world as it appears following that previous Holy Grail War.

Players will experience the story of Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star from the perspectives of  the three factions wrestling for control over SE.RA.PH, the digital world, and the super computer  know as the Moon Cell Automaton, which has the power to grant a wish. They will face off against foes from a variety of Fate productions, including characters from Fate/EXTRA, Fate/stay night, Fate/Zero, Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order, in fast-paced combat. Wield the sheer power of the Noble Phantasms as your own!

As a fan of the anime, I can see how this game suits this play style perfectly, much like Dynasty Warriors or even Final Fantasy: Dissidia. Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star on Nintendo Switch has been confirmed for a North American launch on July 25, with Europe and Australia getting it a few days earlier, on July 21.
