Fallout 76’s $300 Power Armor Edition is less impressive than advertised

Bethesda doesn’t seem to be having the best time with the arrival of their new landmark multiplayer title. Fallout 76 has seen its first few weeks troubled by middling review scores and a buggy launch even by Bethesda standards, and now the collector’s “Power Armor Edition” is being accused of false advertising.

Before release, the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition was advertised as including several cool bonus Fallout merchandise. These include a glow-in-the-dark terrain map, a wearable power armour helmet and 24 collectable Fallout figurines. However, the item that has been the subject of some controversy is the bag, which was advertised as being included in the Power Armor Edition.  It was originally advertised as being a sturdy military-style canvas bag. However, the bag customers are receiving is a much more underwhelming nylon bag.

Now, cost and production issues with collectors editions aren’t uncommon, and it is possible that Bethesda couldn’t produce the number of bags required. Furthermore, a lot of these bonus merch don’t always look as good as they do in the advertisements. However, that is cold comfort for the players who paid $300 for a less impressive bag than advertised.  This is on top of the initial delay of the Power Armor Edition, which led to Bethesda emailing keys to buyers so they could play Fallout 76 with others whilst they were waiting for their bonus merchandise to arrive.

“We understand and respect that there is disappointment with the bag in the Power Armor Edition. We are sorry”, Bethesda Tweeted in response, “Please contact Bethesda Support to provide proof of your CE purchase. They will assist in granting your account 500 Atoms.”

Whilst it is good to see Bethesda addressing the issue, 500 Atoms can’t buy much in-game; it has been pointed out that, ironically, it isn’t even enough to buy an in-game costume that includes a canvas bag. This likely won’t do much to satisfy angry customers who are frustrated with the overall rushed nature of the game.

Australian outlets selling the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition have been quick to edit the product description with the new type of bag. However, they haven’t updated the image showing all of the items included in the Power Armor Edition, which includes the canvas bag rather than the nylon bag.
