New Telltale’s The Walking Dead episodes coming exclusively to Epic Games Store on PC

Epic Games’ latest exclusive acquisition is Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season. According to new developer Skybound Games, on PC, all new episodes can only be purchased from Epic Games’ new digital storefront.  This is the latest exclusive acquisition for the new online platform, which is seeking to challenge Valve’s longstanding dominance over PC digital distribution.

Telltale’s The Walking Dead made headlines earlier this year when Telltale Games abruptly closed down, leaving its half-finished final season in limbo. Fortunately, Skybound Games stepped in to fund the remaining episodes.  Now it appears that Epic Games is helping them complete the season, in exchange for exclusivity on PC.

“The team at Epic owns a major chapter in the history of the game industry. We’re excited to work together on their latest transformative event with the launch of the Epic Games Store,” said President of Interactive Dan Murray and Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe in a joint-statement. ” Epic stepped up to the plate immediately to work with us in order to bring the original team back together and ensure fans will receive the completed season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season.”

This is not the first of Epic Games’ exclusives; they have been focusing on offering high-quality exclusive titles as a selling point of the platform. In addition to future episodes of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, games like Ashen, Subnautica and the upcoming PC port of Journey can only be bought from Epic Games on PC.

TWD available only on Epic Games store

Whilst the Epic Games storefront so far is still fairly bare-bones in terms of content, they are focusing on quality over quantity at this stage. In any case, The Walking Dead: The Final Season is a hell of an acquisition, and will likely bring many new players to check out the Epic Games store.

The third episode of the final season, “Broken Toys” is set to be released on January 15 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. If you have purchased the season pass on another digital storefront on PC, you can still redeem it through that storefront. However, buying future episodes individually, or purchasing the season pass, can now only be done on PC via the Epic Games Store.
