Back to the beginning, the newest Magic: the Gathering expansion Dominaria United is a return to the high fantasy plane of Dominaria, the first plane ever visited in Magic. It offered a world filled with elves, goblins, dragons and angels all of which are returning with an abundance of loved and key characters making a reappearance in the new expansion. Dominaria United is also especially special because it is kicking off Magic: The Gathering’s 30th Anniversary Celebration, preparing for the 30th anniversary of the card game in 2023.
As the first plane of MTG, Dominaria United will heavily feature some well-loved characters from the series including Ajani Pridemate, Jaya Ballard, Karn, Liliana Vess, and Braids to feature. Along with the exciting chance to find cards from the physical Legends boosters printed in 1994. As part of the 30th Anniversary celebration, these cards can be found in any Dominaria United Collector Boosters.
There are also some other exciting cards that can be found in different packs, including the Legends Retold Box-Toppers which contain foil cards and one planeswalker, each a new design inspired by a legendary creature found in the original Legends set. There are also some gorgeous stained glass basic land cards that are available in both standard and foil.
Dominaria United also comes with a new way to start playing Magic: the Gathering in the Jumpstarts Boosters. These packs are a great way to get into the game if you are unsure about the process of building your own deck and don’t want to buy one of the prebuilt decks available. Jumpstart works by combining two booster packs together to create one deck, the packs available are:
- White: Coalition Corps and Coalition Legions
- Blue: Mystic Mischief and Arcane Mischief
- Black: Totally ruthless and Merciless
- Red: Ready to Charge and Ready to Attack
- Green: Beast Territory and Monster Territory
Each Jumpstart Booster also features two foil basic lands, two rares—one new rare unique to this Jumpstart Booster release and one rare or mythic rare from Dominaria United.
So if you are looking to get back into Magic: the Gathering, or want to try the game for the first time, now is a great time to do it. Dominaria United has boundless content for OG fans and lots of new options to make the game more accessible to new players.
