Excited as ever to jump into another cute management sim at PAX Australia 2023, we were happy to try Kooeh: A Timeless Delight. Hosted by Ukiyo Studios and developed by the talented folks at Twilight Foundry Games from Malaysia, the delightful restaurant management game is as sweet as dessert!
Our journey began with the charming tale of a 20-something white-collar worker, who beckoned back to the kampung (village) to rescue the family’s dessert restaurant from closing. Little did we know, this seemingly simple task would ignite a wild, heartwarming adventure through Malaysian culture.
One of the first things that captured our hearts was the game’s aesthetics. The cute and cosy hand-drawn art style welcomed us with open arms. From the quaint restaurant to the mouthwatering dishes being prepared, every pixel of the game oozes with a unique charm and nostalgia that’s hard to resist.
But Kooeh: A Timeless Delight isn’t just about visuals; the gameplay is an absolute treat. Managing the restaurant, uncovering lost family recipes, and engaging in cultural mini-games make for a rich and meaningful experience. The game’s mechanics are not just fun but also engaging. As we tackled the day-to-day responsibilities of running the family restaurant, it felt less like a chore and more like a happy journey through Malaysian culinary traditions.
What truly sets Kooeh: A Timeless Delight apart is its dedication to preserving and celebrating Malaysian culture. The game immerses players in the vibrant Southeast Asia atmosphere, both through the delectable food and the colourful cast of characters you encounter. As you progress through the game, you’ll explore the intricacies of Malaysian traditions and enjoy mouthwatering Southeast Asian sweets. Each interaction is like a bite into a cultural delicacy, leaving you craving for more.
If you’re craving a gaming experience that’s sweet, engaging, and culturally rich, keep your eyes peeled for Kooeh: A Timeless Delight. From our short yet delightful journey, we’re confident that the full game will be a feast for the senses.
