A few developers came from Southeast Asia to share their games at PAX AUS 2024. One of them was Toge Productions which showcased three games. Two of them were developed by the studio which are Whisper Mountain Outbreak and Kriegsfront Tactics. The third game is Moses & Plato – Last Train to Clawville which the studio is helping publish. Each member of the team who worked on the projects happily sat down with us to explain each game.
Whisper Mountain Outbreak is a co-op multiplayer survival horror game where you team up with up to four players. Your goal is to find the ancient horror activated in Mt. Bislik and put a stop to it. The horror is inspired by Indonesian myths and the cultural influence is felt throughout the levels you explore. Gameplay is similar to Resident Evil Outbreak as players work together to fend off enemies and solve puzzles. While the experience is built for co-op play, you can also play solo if you can’t find a team.
The Indonesian myth is inspired by possession rather than undead resurrection. The enemies you face are former humans who have fallen under the influence of the ancient evil. This inspires the design of mini-bosses and bosses that you face along the way. It’s a great look at survival horror with an Indonesian influence, giving you more background about the culture. Despite that, you will use every tool and weapon you can get your hands on to survive. Baseball bats, SMGs, and other weapons are key to protecting your team and bringing down the enemies.
Kriegsfront Tactics is a single-player turn-based tactics game that takes place in Southeast Asia. In a re-imagining of the 1950s, you are fighting with giant mechs through the local forests and jungles. You control soldiers who are doing their best to survive but it’s guerilla warfare and anyone can die. Enemies use the fog-of-war to ambush you or attack using terrain advantages, forcing you to consider your surroundings before you make a step. Your mechs can target individual parts of other mechs for strategic combat and the title uses a projectile system to determine its hit rate.
Your squad is a band of brothers, named characters who can build relationships with each other. They can permanently die, even if you get attached to the cast. The stresses of war linger on your forces, with fatigue and sanity chipped away after each battle. Decide whether it’s worth sending some squad members out or it’s better to rest. Tough strategic decisions await you but to bring peace to Southeast Asia, you must act.
Moses & Plato – Last Train to Clawville is a point-and-click adventure where the titular characters are a detective duo. You are solving a murder on a moving train but both of you are the main suspects. With the train creeping closer to its destination, you must find the true culprit before the journey’s end. With a varied cast of characters from different backgrounds, you must use clues and interrogation to find answers. Depending on the solutions you come up with, your final ending can change.
As a visual novel, Moses & Plato brings humour and emotional impacts to each scene. Your choices when talking with others will determine the emotions that you see. These choices matter when talking to suspects and determining what information you get from them. There are several paths that are possible as a result, giving the game lots of replayability.
Toge Productions has big plans for these games, with the goal to add more in the future. Whisper Mountain Outbreak will fully develop its levels and you can search for players online. Kriegsfront Tactics will have the option for exploration, letting you witness the terrain of the world for yourself. The team is excited about each release and properly explained each part of the demo’s strengths. None of the games have a set release date, but it’s fascinating to see the team’s approach not only for the games they develop, but the games they publish.
With more coming on the horizon, it’s an exciting time to watch Toge Productions and their upcoming releases. You can try a demo for both Whisper Mountain Outbreak and Moses & Plato on Steam right now. Kriegsfront Tactics currently has the full prologue to help you get used to the mechanics.
