The year is almost up but that doesn’t mean indie games are stopping any time soon. Without further ado, here are 10 exciting indies in November 2024 to get stuck in to.
Munch
Developer: Mac n Cheese Games
Release Date: November 4
Platforms: PC
“Kill. Eat. Evolve. Unleash your inner monster in this dark fantasy action roguelite. Devour the Followers of Order, choose your mutations and transform into 12 different monsters each with their own abilities, soundtrack and appetite. Crush the god Ördo to release the Gods of Heavy Metal!”
There’s an innate pleasure in playing as a little evil guy eating and demolishing other guys to be a bigger evil guy. Channelling beloved roguelikes of recent years and the delightfully gross gooiness of games like Carrion, Munch looks like a blast I’ll be keeping my eyes on.
Death of the Reprobate
Developer: Joe Richardson
Release Date: November 8
Platforms: PC
“Explore a world built from the luscious landscapes, turbulent townscapes and preposterous portraits of real Renaissance paintings. Death of the Reprobate is a Rabelaisian adventure game from the creator of Four Last Things and The Procession to Calvary.”
The legend behind the weird and wonderful The Procession to Calvary is back for more! Making light of classic art in a point-and-click style adventure and Calvary provided plenty of gags. Navigating Renaissance paintings in Reprobate will be more of that goodness and I can’t recommend a better game this month for point-and-click fans.
Slitterhead
Developer: Bokeh Game Studio
Release Date: November 8
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
“Set in the densely cluttered streets of “Kowlong,” filled with obscurity and chaos, this battle-action-adventure game casts players as the “Hyoki,” an entity devoid of memory and physical form. His only motive is to eradicate the monstrous beings known as “Slitterheads” crawling around the city, disguising themselves as humans.”
Schlocky Horror returns with this new title from the creator of Silent Hill’s brand-new studio. This game looks like a PS2 or PS3 horror action game in all the best ways: unbelievable but charming jank, cool-as-hell visuals and a spooky good time. I can’t bloody wait to go hijacking people and causing some chaos in city streets.
Everholm
Developer: Chonky Loaf
Release Date: November 11
Platforms: PC
“Lilly was spirited away to a mysterious island. As her memories fade, everyone seems to know her and her quest for her missing sister. It’s time to establish a homestead, meet your friendly Everfolks, then learn their secrets and solve the mystery of Everholm, in this open-ended minimalist RPG!”
Another title for the evergrowing and overabundant cozy game corner of games at this point, but an adorable one at that. Befriending witches, taking on beasties, farming and searching for my sister? I might just have to dust off my rusty Stardew Valley skills.
The Rise of the Golden Idol
Developer: Color Gray Games
Release Date: November 12
Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
“The Award-winning detective saga returns. Uncover the truth behind 20 strange cases of crime, death and depravity in the 1970s. The world has changed dramatically – the sins of humanity have not.”
Banger game alert! The original Golden Idol game was an incredible game when it was released in 2022 and it’s quite a surprise we already have a new one! Following the likes of games like Return of the Obra Dinn, Rise of the Golden Idol will again have players slotted into a grisly crime scene event and piece together what ill fate fell each person of a scene, how and why. Set in the now pulpy 70s with that mysterious and deadly Golden Idol, this is a mystery game you won’t want to miss.
Sorry We’re Closed
Developer: A la Mode Games
Release Date: November 14
Platforms: PC
“Sorry We’re Closed is a nostalgic, single-player survival horror game with rich lore, deep characters and multiple endings. Explore unsettling locations with fixed camera angles. Fight in first person with demonic weapons. Open your Third Eye to see between worlds, uncover secrets and solve puzzles.”
This has to be the game with the most striking vibes of the month. It’s a survival horror game, only its imagery is ethereal and evangelical. First-person action with third-person exploration with fixed camera angles, it’s a hell of a mesh-up. The character design is also stunningly dreamy and poppy. Filled with colour. If you’re tired of your dark and grimy horror games then Sorry We’re Closed is for you. Think Silent Hill meets the vaporware vibes of Paradise Killer and you’ve got the game down pat.
Miniatures
Developer: Other Tales Interactive
Release Date: November 14
Platforms: PC, iOS, Nintendo Switch
“Miniatures is a collection of strange tales where childhood imagination and reality merge with darker undercurrents of mystery and magic. Explore a vast seascape, build odd furniture, feed a lizard and play with sand castles.”
A quaint but surreal narrative and puzzle game where you’re navigating childhood imagination. As such, expect curious environments and imagery, all in an artistic picture book style. Collecting four original stories, you’ll explore and meet the music-loving sea critter inhabitants of a sand castle, a family assembling a flat pack cupboard, a boy investigating the vast open world amidst nature’s invasion and a young girl’s journey across the seas for her missing mother. Weird!
Mindcop
Developer: Andre Gareis
Release Date: November 14
Platforms: PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch
“Mindcop is a non-linear „whodunnit“ detective game. It mixes a story-driven adventure with real-time puzzle gaming. As the infamous Mindcop, you can dive into the minds of your suspects to uncover their secrets and unravel their lies.”
A noir murder mystery story where you jump into people’s minds and find out their history and secrets, all in the hopes of finding out who dunnit. A hell of a concept and a striking monochromatic colour palette meshed with harsh red lighting that seeps in through windows. Indie games just can’t help but be pretty and weird this month, huh?
Great God Grove
Developer: LimboLane
Release Date: November 15
Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S
“Once in a generation, the gods come together to postpone the apocalypse. But this time, the god of communication started a bunch of godly fights and then went awol. With the sky splitting and the gods in disarray, who’s gonna join the Bizzyboys to help SAVE DA WORLD FROM A-POCKY-LIPS???“
Great God Grove essentially looks like Uncanny Valley: The Game. It seems it’ll be a trippy, silly weird and wonderful experience where you’re playing God’s mail carrier. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a game this Double Fine-esque in art style, but if the shoe fits…
Toads of the Bayou
Developer: Fireshine Games
Release Date: November 19
Platforms: PC
“Lead a group of toads as they fight against Baron Samedi’s evil forces in a challenging mix of turn-based tactics and roguelike deckbuilding. Synergise card effects, gain the aid of powerful allies and engage in strategic combat to thrive in the cursed bayou.”
Finally, the world has a (F)roguelike deck builder. There’s not a lot to say about this one except that I eat up every turn-based tactics and deck builder game known to man. Add frogs in there and that’s just a guarantee of a good old time, baby.
And there you have it. 10 exciting indies that are releasing in November 2024. We’re almost there. The home stretch. Is anyone else tired?
