Checkpoint’s Queer Game of the Month: January 2025 – Five upcoming and exciting queer ventures

Posted on January 3, 2025

It’s 2025 and we’re back at it again. A new year means new queer games to look forward to. While it’s early in the year and there aren’t a whole lot of releases with firm dates to gravitate to just yet, we thought we’d shout out five upcoming and exciting queer games you should look out for in the year to come!

Date Everything!

Developer: Sassy Chap Games
Release date: February 14
Platforms: PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PC

“Date Everything is a sandbox dating simulator set in the comfort of your own home, featuring 100 fully voice-acted datable characters! Let the romance flow between your bed, smoke alarm, and… Overwhelming Sense of Existential Dread? Are you ready to Date Everything?”

At long last, after a reveal last year and subsequent delay, Date Everything! arrives on the fitting date of Valentine’s Day. Channelling all things silly visual novel in the Dream Daddy-esque approach (for better or worse), this looks to be a joyous dating game affair where the skies are the limit. Just how involved will it all be with 100 fully voice-acted romance options? Why am I attracted to a fridge all of a sudden? All these questions and more await us on this Lover’s day.

Call Me Under

Developer: Lunaris Games
Release date: TBA
Platforms: PC, Mac

“Dive into the 1950s and explore an underwater world soaked in dark magic, Eldritch mysteries, and romance. Investigate the sudden disappearances plaguing Styx and uncover the truth behind the vicious power struggle between two ancient forces.”

Taking the best of both worlds, Call Me Under has an enticing and incredibly Bioshock setting where monsters and mysteries await. Though (at least according to the trailer) you don’t appear to be dating many, if any, monsters, they have a striking cast to get close and personal with. Pretty, effeminite men with long hair who smoke cigarettes. Divine women who look like they could kill you. Call Me Under was a game manufactured in a lab for me and me alone.

Fine Work

Developer: Tethys Games
Release Date: ‘Coming Soon’
Platforms: PC

“Sendshapers know that rich memories make the best materials. In this Rhythm Game x Visual Novel, you’ll transmute patrons’ memories into beautiful artefacts. What have your clients seen? And do they sense what’s coming?”

Rhythm-based gameplay meshed with a visual novel adventure full of cuties is enough to get me invested, but Fine Work is an experience that looks cut from another cloth. It offers striking art and unique but authentic depictions of genderqueer identities, with the entire cast using the Finnish gender-neutral pronoun hän. More research would have to be done to confirm fully, but that must be a first in games!

Fearbonding

Developer: Night Asobu
Release Date: ‘Q2 2025’
Platforms: PC

“Fearbonding is a Yandere x Demon BL Horror Visual Novel. Play as Hinata, a demon, and try to tame the deranged Kosuke. Will you get to satisfy your hunger for fear through your new hunting dog or will you be the one to get devoured?”

A lot less positive and tender than the game prior, Fearbonding is a dark and brooding visual novel where two boys fall in love. Only, you’re a demon seeking your human prey. Lovers of Toxic Yaoi, this is your time to shine and vote with your wallet.

Cage of Roses

Developer: ebi-hime
Release Date: 2025
Platforms: PC

“A haunting gothic romance set in the 19th century. Follow Meike, a young woman from an impoverished noble family, as she’s swept off her feet by the mysterious Magdalena: a vampire who possesses a dark secret.

Away from the Yaoi and into the Yuri. Cage of Roses is a striking Victorian-era visual novel where a woman forced to marry a man she doesn’t love is offered a tantalising new lease on life when she’s captured by the beautiful and enigmatic female vampire known as Magdalena. Again, props to the art on this one. Just look at the way Magdalena cups her captive’s chin in her hand ever so delicately. I’m flustered. This game knows and boasts that vampires are hot. I can’t. Bloody. Wait.

And there you have it. There’s just some of the queer games to look forward to in 2025 and beyond. It’s an exciting year to be had with a wide array of experiences to sink your teeth into. Are you as excited as I am? Is there a queer game you’re gearing up for that’s releasing soon? Let us know!
