Battlefield 1 is releasing worldwide on October 21, 2016 for Xbox One, Origin on PC, and PlayStation 4, according to EA DICE.
The reason for it being called ‘1’ instead of the expected Battlefield 5 is because the game will be set in World War 1. Makes sense, right?

In war-torn France to the east, horrible armored tanks tear holes in walls as they roll through crumbling cities. To the south, past the burning Italian coast, men charge over the sand dunes of the Arabian Desert, armed to the teeth with the most powerful weaponry the world has ever seen. This is what the dawn of all-out war looks like, and it’s Only in Battlefield 1.“
Battlefield has always been the more tactical shooter when it comes to online multiplayer – it looks like they’re really taking advantage of the setting! What do you guys think? I’m confident based on the quality of previous Battlefield titles that this should be pretty fun. There will even be a chance to enlist.
