Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima has stated again today that the Nintendo NX will not be the successor to the WiiU or 3DS but an entirely new convention for the company.
In a statement translated by NeoGAF user GSR, Kimishima reiterates: “The NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS”, said Kimishima. “It’s a new way of playing games, which I think will have a larger impact than the Wii U, but I don’t feel it’s a pure replacement for the Wii U.”
During the same interview it was alluded to that Nintendo may be looking to enter the film business also.
My take away from this is Ninendo is running another gamble; comparable to the original Wii even. Nintendo’s mind-share isn’t nearly what is was during that period, yet they do have a cash stockpile that is useful when taking some business risks. What concerns me is how many chances are investors going to give Nintendo, let a lone the gaming community as a whole?
With the NX slated for a March 2017 release date, we can only speculate on Nintendo’s plans. Hopefully we get some solid news soon!
