You might be wondering… what  is Checkpoint exactly?

There are lots of gaming websites already out there, so what makes us different?

For starters, we’ve been producing our radio show of the same name for over two years. Airing weekly on JOY 94.9, Australia’s only LGBT Radio Station, we cover the news and reviews that are important to you as gamers, but also discuss topics that other publications shy away from, including sexuality in gaming, religion in gaming, LGBT representation, equality and more. The conversations we have are of varying opinions from 4 different panelists each week, with special guests and experts in their fields brought in to add more depth and understanding to what can be some tricky topics.

Also, we’re Australian! Not only that, but we’re proud of it. We have some incredibly talented game developers and some fantastic gaming events down here, and while we appreciate the coverage and news stories from our international brethren, we present our news in an Australian context, with relevant info for Aussies. This also gives us a chance to interview local developers and get their games out there in the mix – it’s not just AAA titles all the time that deserve the attention!

Our weekly show only runs for two hours, and while we have had some fantastic content, there is so much more going on in the games industry ever y day that two hours just isn’t enough… so here we are! We have some exciting plans for the future of the show and the website and we are stoked that you’re here on that journey with us.  So, thank you in advance!

Lastly, all of us – the writers, the web development team, the graphic designers and the weekly presenters/hosts of Checkpoint on JOY 94.9 are all volunteers. We don’t get paid for what we do – but we bring varying levels of experience within the industry and most of all a real passion for video games. We live and breathe video games. You could even say they are part of our family. That’s why we’re all here, right?
