Gender customization options expand in The Sims 4

Posted on June 3, 2016

An update for The Sims 4 has been released by EA today, allowing players to customize the gender of their Sims in even more detail.

“For more than 16 years, The Sims franchise has empowered players to express themselves through open gameplay and endless customization. That’s why we’re so excited that today’s free update to The Sims 4 features an expanded Create A Sim mode with new gender customization options, and gives our players even more ways to play with life.”

Short hairstyles will be usable on both male and female Sims now, for example, and all hair, clothing, jewelry and accessory options will be available to use on whoever you like, regardless of gender.

“Over 700 pieces of content previously only available to either male or female Sims, have now been made available to all Sims regardless of initial gender selection. This includes content from The Sims 4 base game and previously launched packs.”

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Rachel Franklin, Executive Producer of The Sims 4, said that they had been working closely with LGBT advocacy group GLAAD to ensure that the update would be sensitive to all players, including transgender players.

We think this is an awesome change and another positive step for video games to be as inclusive as possible, especially a big franchise like The Sims! What do you think?
