Who said gaming has to be all couches and dimly lit rooms?
Maybe you think your driving skills are being wasted left on the track side.
Well, now’s your chance to prove your skills thanks to Nissan and PlayStation Australia. Nissan PlayStation® GT Academy live events are back for 2016, with dates and locations announced for Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast.
Dates and locations are listed below, where players will have access to the pre-release edition of Gran Turismo Sports, due for release exclusively on the PlayStation 4, out November 16. These live qualifying events will be the only opportunity for Australian gamers to enter the competition which could see them become a legitimate International Race Driver.
You heard me, If you really know your stuff you could follow in the footsteps of 2015 GT Academy winner Matt Simmons in making the transition from gamer to racer.
“It’s been an amazing journey from delivering parcels for Australia Post and playing Gran Turismo in my lounge room to now travelling the globe and racing a Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 in some of the biggest sportcar races in the world. I can’t wait to see what this year’s competition will hold and I hope we can find our next Australian GT Academy champion” said Simmons.
Following the live GT Academy qualifying events, 20 participants will be selected to compete at the 2016 Australian National Final, also held at Warner Bros Movie World. The finalists will be tested in gaming using Nissan cars in Gran Turismo Sport, as well as fitness tests, media conferences and driving challenges on the track using Nissan sports cars. The six best contestants will be flown to the famous Silverstone circuit in England to compete against the world’s best at the 2016 GT Academy International Race Camp. The overall 2016 GT Academy International winner will then undertake the intensive Nissan Driver Development Program (NDDP) to qualify them for an International Race Licence.
Those in Melbourne are especially luckily, as the event will be held at Federation Square as a free event. Sydney gamers will need to purchase tickets for the Red Rooster Sydney SuperSprint, where as Gold Coast gamers will need to purchase a ticket to Warner Bros Movie World during the competition days in order to enter. Tickets can be purchased individually or via the link on the GT Academy website.
