With the Nintendo Wii U doing poorly in terms of sales against the current PS4 and Xbox One consoles, and soon to be challenged by the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S, it seems that Nintendo will need to up their game and conjure a creature that will hit back fiercely.
As of April 2016 only 12.92 million Wii U Units were sold worldwide compared to the PS4 which sold over 40 million units and Xbox One selling over 21 million units.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime expressed his feelings, as well as how he hopes Nintendo’s next gen console will help with its struggling sales.
“One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX… we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product” he said. “We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience.”
With respect to Pokémon Go receiving an incredible response, gaining over 500 million downloads worldwide; the announcement of Super Mario Run for the iOS, which is expected to gain over a billion downloads; and the incredible hype build up for Pokémon Sun and Moon. All of this may help boost morale towards Nintendo’s next gen console and gain more customer support to get Nintendo closer to the Xbox One and PS4 competition.
