Releasing back in 1988, the original Wasteland game was a popular, post-apocalyptic RPG. Despite releasing to critical acclaim, the game unfortunately never got its intended sequel. That is, not until it was crowdfunded via Kickstarter and released in 2014. Riding the crowd-funding wave of success it looks like developer inXile will once again get the public to monetise their new project when it launches on crowd-funding website, Fig. The devs are looking to raise $2.75 million USD and I wish them the best of luck, because I can’t get enough tactical RPG’s in my life.
Wasteland 3 will expand on the formula created by its predecessor. In a press release, inXile have stated that “we are evolving on Wasteland 2’s deep tactic turn-based combat and unique encounter design.” The game will introduce a “revamped, more fluid action system” and for the first time allow you to play alongside a friend.
Moving Wasteland 3 to new locations “the game will be set in the savage lands of frozen Colorado, where survival is difficult and a happy ending is never guaranteed.” The game will be a story-driven, tactical RPG which inXile suggests will have a stronger focus on narrative. “Wasteland 3 will feature a deep and engaging story utilizing a newly-revamped dialogue tree system”.
The game will release simultaneously on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4 and Xbox One, if it manages to achieve its funding goal.
