Cuphead delayed until “mid 2017”

Posted on October 13, 2016

It has been a bumpy journey for Cuphead , with yet another delay impacting the 1930’s-cartoon-inspired platformer.

The game was initially teased in October of 2013 with an expected 2014 release date. Since then it has seen a few delays and changes to design that has pushed its release back time and time again. The previous delay was incurred after the developers decided to increase the scope of the game, changing it from a boss-battle only title to a more traditional release. That scope change pushed the game back to late 2016 but we are now seeing it pushed back even further to “mid 2017”.

The announcement comes from a developer blog post claiming that “throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact. We are happy to announce that Cuphead will be coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in Mid-2017.”

A delay of over 6 months is fairly substantial in the gaming world but not unheard of. Hopefully the extra time will translate into extra quality because I most certainly am hoping that Cuphead will turn out to be an amazing experience.
