Resident Evil fans have noticed an interesting detail in a recently posted Facebook advert. Initially brought to attention by a Reddit user, the Facebook ad confirms that the highly anticipated horror game will be exclusive to PSVR for an entire year. As far as timed exclusives go, this is a pretty lengthy one.
For the sake of clarity, the PSVR exclusivity is an exclusivity deal specific to VR devices. This means that PC and Xbox One will still get the game at the same time as the PS4.
Outside of the obvious, this news becomes noteworthy in a couple of other ways too. Firstly, it implies that Resident Evil 7 biohazard will be arriving on VR devices outside of the PSVR. What those specific devices are isn’t yet solidified but HTC Vive and Oculus Rift owners would be understandably hopeful right now.
Secondly, it may point toward a focus of Sony to encourage exclusivity deals for their device. It comes as no surprise really with exclusivity being a big part of Sony’s history. This begs the question though, if they have the resources to continue that focus, how strongly will it effect consumer decisions as to which VR device they buy into?
How do you feel about year long gaming exclusives? Could this news sway your decision as to which VR device you’re most interested in?
