The rumour mill is in full swing and its taking aim at Zelda: Breath of the Wild. More specifically, the speculation is that the game has been delayed and is no longer expected to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch.
The rumours originate from Nintendo Tipster, Emily Rodgers, and Eurogamer who claim to have “sources close to Nintendo.” The suggestion is that the game’s localisation schedule will take them up to the end of 2016 with a full 4 to 6 months of testing to follow. That would leave Zelda: Breath of the Wild at a release anywhere between April and June of 2017, missing the Switch’s launch in March.
Without a Zelda game at the forefront of Nintendo’s next console launch, the question then becomes: ‘what will the Switch’s big launch title be?’ I also wonder if this news may hurt the initial sales of the new console as well. Of course we are merely dealing with speculation and rumour for now, hopefully we will hear from Nintendo for confirmation or denial some time soon (although probably not).
