Just when you thought it safe to go back into the water, Empoleon strikes Pokkén Tournament with a vengeance! Recently announced as the newest fighter in the popular game, a gameplay trailer showcasing Empoleon’s battle skills has been released.
Personally I loved Empoleon as a Sinnoh starter in Pokémon Black and White and enjoyed the challenge of rearing a steel-type Pokémon, which I’m not partial to as a trainer. I’m hoping this transfers well in a fighting game like Pokkén, as steel-type Pokémon tend to be a bit on the slower side of Pokémon types.
For a water/steel-type, Empoleon sure can move at an alarmingly rapid pace; it appears to be able face its foes with a torrent of mid and close range attacks, as well punishing combos to deal significant damage. As a fan of water-types, Empoleon is certainly a warm (or cool, in this case) welcome to the varied Pokkén Tournament roster. Currently it is not known if Empoleon will be available on the Wii U release as a DLC character, and has only been slated for arcade release on the 15th of December 2016.
