It’s official! Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite is currently under development and will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC “late 2017”. Marvel released the now classic fighting game X-Men: Children of the Atom in 1996 and was closely followed by the first Marvel/Capcom cross-over in 1998 with X-Men vs Street Fighter. This immensely popular fighting game series then progressed to allow players to control a team of fighters with six further titles released. Marvel vs Capcom 2 (2000) in particular was perhaps the last great hit at the arcade before home consoles (PS2 in 2000 and Xbox in 2001) created real competition.
“For the last two decades, Marvel vs. Capcom has been one of the most celebrated franchises among fans,” said Mike Jones (Executive Producer, Marvel Entertainment). “To deliver on that legacy, we’ve worked closely with Capcom to create a game that honors the heritage of the series and combines Marvel’s unique brand of storytelling with Capcom’s world-class gameplay. We’re raising the bar with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and are excited for players to get their hands on it next year.”
“It was deeply inspiring for our development team to join forces again with Marvel and we can’t wait for our fans to experience the benefits of that collaboration first hand,” said Michael Evans (Director of Production, Capcom USA). “With Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, our goal is to provide memorable experiences and infinite gameplay possibilities for players of all skill levels.”
We know that Capcom icons Ryu and Mega Man will be returning in MvC: I as well as Marvel’s Iron Man, with Captain Marvel making her debut appearance! I can tell you now being a comic book fan I will be buying this game for her alone.
While we wait to be drip fed new characters and features of MvC: I, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 has been re-released with a PS4 digital download available now and versions for the Xbox One and PC coming in March 2017. This version includes improved resolution, all of the previously released DLCs as well as a new gallery mode.
