Marvel and Square Enix team up for The Avengers Project

It looks as though Marvel is making its move back into the gaming world in a big way and is not pulling any punches, Hulk or otherwise. The comic book company has recently announced a multi year, multi-game partnership with game developers Square Enix; a company known for series such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest. A cryptic teaser trailer was released in the early hours of the morning announcing the first game in this monumental collaboration The Avengers Project.

Developed by Crystal Dynamics (Rise of the Tomb Raider), in conjunction with Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided), The Avengers Project is the working title for the first game from the collaboration. The trailer itself reveals very little, and only alludes to the Avengers having dismantled or been defeated – images of Captain America’s shield, Iron Man’s blaster, and Thor’s hammer lying among wreckage provide us with a dire image.

“They say the time of heroes is over. That if you’re different you’re dangerous. ButI know the truth. The world will always need heroes. We just need to reassemble” These are the words straight from the female narrator who does a good job of drawing this fan-boy in.

Unfortunately, there really isn’t any more information to go on at the moment, but what are your thoughts on The Avengers Project? Is it going to be able to live up to the impeccably high standard both Marvel and Square Enix fans expect? It’s hard to believe that a game with so much backing could go south, but only time will tell.
