A fem-tastic tasty trailer from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment’s Injustice 2 has been released, announcing two more playable characters – Catwoman and Cheetah. Shown alongside them is Poison Ivy and Black Canary, showcasing their various fighting styles and adding a much needed female quotient to the Injustice 2 roster.
The two new announced characters, Cheetah and Catwoman, are certainly going to be interesting additions to the fold. Cheetah is more of a melee based or “power” fighter from what the trailer suggests, she will duke it out with her claws and superior feline speed. Catwoman, the ever morally grey anti-hero, has returned from Injustice: Gods Among Us to battle once more and crack some skulls, just as easily as she cracks her whip. Since Catwoman was a “gadget” typed opponent in the previous game, it stands to reason she will once again take on this battle style in Injustice 2, which the trailer helps to confirm.
We are also treated to new game play from an already known character, Poison Ivy. A fan favourite, Ivy is usually cast as the villain in the DC universe, and while her role in the Injustice universe has not been established, what we can establish is she will be a fighter to be reckoned with. As another possible “gadget” fighter, Ivy will do battle with close-range melee attacks and mid-range plant based attacks. Unfortunately, not much else is known about her battle technique just yet; hopefully more video of Poison Ivy will be shown to rectify this.
Black Canary is also shown in the trailer, and while we have seen her in action already the trailer’s purpose was to showcase more female rostered characters, something that was perfectly achieved. Personally I believe it’s high time we had more women represented in fighting games, especially when DC has a great line-up of battle ready women (Super Girl, Wonder Woman, Hawk Girl, and Harley Quinn to name a few). All of whom can hold their own against the men.
Injustice 2 is set for release on the May 17, 2017 in Australia and will be playable on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. It’s also available for pre-order currently with exclusive additional content.
