Gears of War 4 is in for a busy month; alongside a Valentines Day themed event starting February 10th and running for a week, this month will also see an update for the game which will bring two new maps.
The two new maps are both new takes on previously released maps. Impact Dark is a night-time version of the existing Dark map with visibility permanently being reduced by smoke. Snipers will be swapped out with Boltoks, Dropshot replaces Torque/EMBAR, and the Overkill replaces Incendiaries. This is all in an effort “to alter the flow of the map” according to developer The Coalition. War Machine is a “drastic new take” on the map from the original Gears of War, now set in a new COG Settlement, standing out with its pristine appearance and gleaming grandiose features. The maps will be available to season pass holders.
The February update will also introduce Guardian improvements, which involves tweaks to respawns; you’ll now respawn closer to your leader, rather than at random as well as many other improvements to gameplay.
