Nintendo announced today some rather perplexing and at the same time exciting news for fans. Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the flagship title for the upcoming Nintendo Switch, will get two pieces of downloadable content throughout 2017. However, if you wish to get them you’ll need to get the Zelda Expansion Pass.
According to Nintendo, starting from when the game launches on March 3, players will be able to purchase the Expansion Pass for $19.99. This will grant them access to two new sets of downloadable content for the game when they become available later this year. Additionally, immediately upon purchase of the Expansion Pass, the player will receive three new treasure chests in the game which will appear in the Great Plateau area. One of these treasure chests will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo on it, which Link can wear during his adventures. The shirt will be exclusive to Expansion Pass holders. The other two chests will deliver useful items.
The first content pack is scheduled to launch mid this year and will include an additional Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode, and a new feature for the in-game map. The second content pack will launch Holidays 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story. The Expansion Pass will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U. One thing which has many fans on the fence however is Nintendo’s comment stating that content packs cannot be purchased individually. While some fans are sceptical to begin with over the Expansion Pass, the inability to pick and choose your content has some fans seeing red.
