Steven Universe fans are rejoicing all over the world as the latest announcement that a sequel to the successful mobile game Steven Universe: Attack the Light has been announced – Steven Universe: Save the Light. Produced by Grumpyface Studios, the team responsible for the previous game and written by Rebecca Sugar, multi-award nominee, and co-creator of the Steven Universe series, they will help bring to life the beloved series onto the PlayStation 4 console later this year.
Steven Universe: Save the Light will be a unique RPG that combines elements of turn-based, and real-time combat. Players will be able to customize their battle party with the many characters found within the Steven Universe universe. The story itself will be “bigger, deeper, and have more epic adventures designed for consoles” according to Grumpyface developer Chris Graham, something a game on mobile just wouldn’t be able to provide.
From what we have been told by Chris, this means Save the Light will feature an updated battle system, with fully customizable character selection, emphasis more on puzzle-solving, and exploration in vibrant 3D environments, as well as a new Steven Universe story from Rebecca Sugar and her show team. Developers have said that Save the Light has been designed in such a way that it can serve as an entry-point for players who are unfamiliar with the Steven Universe lore, while still offering super-fans new surprises and insights into the show’s magical world and lore.
The story for Save the Light, while slightly vague, follows Steven and the Crystal Gems after a mysterious warrior arrives in Beach City and steals a powerful weapon. Steven and the Gems must embark upon a journey, far beyond Beach City, defeating creepy creatures along the way and retrieve the stolen weapon and save the light.
Steven Universe: Save the Light is set for release in 2017 on the PlayStation 4, with no word on if it will be ported to other consoles yet.
