Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age spring trailer

Posted on April 29, 2017

In anticipation to Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age’s release, Square Enix has unveiled a new cinematic trailer foreshadowing the epic adventure players are about to embark upon in the mystic world of Ivalice. I’ll admit, even I had forgotten how story-rich this game was, and I can not wait to reacquaint myself!

In a world where magic is commonplace and airships rule the skies, war has eclipsed the kingdom of Dalmasca, leaving it in ruin and uncertainty. Princess Ashe, the only living heir to the Dalmascan throne, has devoted her life to the resistance and fights with reckless abandon, all in the hopes of liberating her country. Accompanied by Vaan, a young street thief and orphan, the pair create unlikely allies as they lead the fight for freedom, along with an unconventional band of comrades attempting to claim back their homeland.

Being a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XII, to me, was something of a swan song for the PlayStation 2, being the last instalment to release on the fading console. In my own opinion it didn’t necessarily receive the love and attention that Final Fantasy X received, which was a real shame. The world of Ivalice already had a rich tapestry of history to draw upon, with prior handheld games including Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Advanced and Vagrant Story.

This HD remake is a warm welcome and positive step in the right direction for FF XII, as gamers who missed out on playing it the first time around will be granted another opportunity to explore the world of Ivalice. Not only that, the International Zodiac Job System will finally be available to all who never got their hands on the re-released version, making for a much more creative play through. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be available on PlayStation 4 from July 7th in Australia and is already available for pre-order.
