Sony Interactive Entertainment have just announced they will be re-releasing the PlayStation 2 classics: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, Jak 3, and Jak X: Combat Racing on the PS4 later this year.
Whilst the first three games had already been re-released in the Jak and Daxter Collection for PS3 (aka The Jak and Daxter Trilogy in PAL regions), this is the first time Jak X will be available on a new generation since the PlayStation 2. Unfortunately, whilst discussing the PS4 release of Jak X, Sony’s Bryan Pardilla revealed that it won’t include any online features:
“That’s right! Jak X: Combat Racing, Naughty Dog’s wild vehicular combat PS2 classic will be available for the first time anywhere since its release back in October 2005. Originally released for PS2, Jak X will make its way onto PS4 later this year. Play Adventure or Exhibition mode in this no-holds-barred buggy brawler for hours of challenge and fun. Although there will be no online features you can still battle against your friends via splitscreen.” – [source]
It’s not yet clear how they plan to release the games (either as a pack or individually) but as with all older titles coming to the PS4, they will be upscaled to 1080p. I’m pretty exited about this news and equally happy to see PlayStation bringing more great classics to the PS4!
