Square Enix has released Arkanoid vs Space Invaders for iOS and Google Play, available for your smart phone or tablet. Now that these two games have come together to form one, I just don’t know why this has only happened now.
The game is essentially a powered-up version of Arkanoid where you control the Arkanoid Vaus paddle ship (oh it had a name…) and defeat the attacking Space Invaders with your ball-bouncing and brick-breaking skills.
Arkanoid vs Space Invaders has 150 stages to guarantee you miss your train stop, and with over 20 different powers such as a reflection ability and split balls – who cares? There are also over 40 characters to unlock to help you in your space invader destroying quest, including Bub and Bob from another Taito classic: Bubble Bobble!
For those who are wondering why some might be squealing with delight, Space Invaders is one the games that gave birth to the arcade genre leading to everything we know and love about video games today. Even though it was first made back in 1978, Taito have not stopped marketing and developing the game, and it is even a corporate logo of the company.
Now you might be forgiven for not knowing Arkanoid, but this block breaking game from 1986 changed gameplay in computer games forever with the trigonometry and reflex-based skills needed to beat this ever-challenging game.
