CD Projekt Red being extorted by thieves

Posted on June 10, 2017

Developers CD Projekt Red have gone public earlier today to announce that an individual or individuals are attempting to hold intellectual property at ransom, What has been detailed at this point in time is that they are unknown to the developers and that the stolen details have been identified as documents containing information about their new game in development, Cyberpunk 2077.

The individual(s) have stated that they intend on releasing information about the game if CD Projekt Red don’t comply with their demands. It’s not clear what the extortionist(s) are demanding. , but the assumption is that it’s money.

With true grit, however, CD Projekt Red have responded stating “We will not be giving into the demands of the individual or individuals that have contacted us, which might eventually lead to the files being published online. The appropriate legal authorities will be informed about the situation”.  The developers have requested that you ignore any details leaked about Cyberpunk 2077 as the details may not be an accurate reflection of the games current direction, and that you should wait for official reveals from the developers themselves if you’re looking forward to playing it.  The full response is below:

With E3 so close, it begs the question if the extortionists were hoping for some pot luck before major AAA games start being details to the public. With recent similar threats affecting Netflix and other TV networks, some of which have been carried out, we hope that any potential leaks won’t impact what will surely be a game that many people are excited to learn more about.
