E3 2017: Final Fantasy XV VR seems fishy

Posted on June 16, 2017

E3 2016 had us all gagging for the Final Fantasy XV VR Experience.  With the demo showing off shooting away as Prompto against Deadeye, the one-eyed behemoth terrorizing the lands, many fans were excited for what Square Enix had to offer for PSVR owners.  Months dragged on with no further mention of the content, until a new reveal at E3 2017… and it’s not exactly what we expected.

Check out the trailer for Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV below.

Should we be disappointed that the focus is fishing?  Honestly, I’m not.  The FFXV fishing mini-game was a lot of fun and a great way to relax in the game in between saving the world.  By many accounts, the former Final Fantasy XV VR Experience shown in 2016 did not play too well and apparently didn’t “feel” like a Final Fantasy title.

I’m glad that Square Enix has taken a different route for VR – going with something small, but polished, instead of something over ambitious and done just to fill the VR hype train. It’s set for release September 2017.
