After the initial reveal at Microsoft’s E3 conference, Square Enix has presented us with another gift this E3 – gameplay footage of the new Life Is Strange prequel. Focusing on the time whilst Max was living interstate, Life is Strange: Before The Storm features Chloe’s life 2 years after the car accident that we find out about in the first game.
Following the episodic nature of Life Is Strange, we’re looking at getting 3 episodes this time, with a total of about 9 – 10 hours of gameplay. Despite the lack of Max’s unique time-travel powers, this is still a Life Is Strange game at its heart. The new developers are going to great lengths to make sure it looks and feels the same as the original. One difference, however, is in the casting – Chloe’s voice actor was caught up in union strikes, but is apparently still part of the writing team.
One thing highlighted by the developers is their desire for relationship ambiguity and leaving things open to interpretation for the players. Time for me to proclaim to the world about just how queer Chloe is (to me)!
Life Is Strange: Before the Storm’s first episode is slated for an August 31st release. In a bizarre (but inherently Square Enix) move, a “bonus episode” featuring Max will come with the Deluxe edition of the game.
