Hitman’s opening sections now playable for free

IO Interactive has released the first two missions of their Hitman episodic series for free starting today.  Along with the free content, all other episodes of the game’s first season will go on sale.

This is a great opportunity for those who have never experienced the stealthy assassination series that is Hitman.  Whilst the ICA Facility mission that is now freely available may not be the best level, it does provide the best sense of what to expect from the game.

The ICA Facility, released in this free content, has two story missions, over 40 challenges, 17 achievements and two contracts. All progress made in the free version will carry over if you choose to purchase the game. You will also have access to missions designed by other players in Contracts Mode.

The news of the free content update comes only a month after IO Interactive was dropped by publisher Square Enix, making them an independent developer. So to see them continuing to support the franchise even amongst the controversy of losing their publisher is a very good sign.

“I’m proud to announce that our first hello as an independent studio is to invite all gamers to play the beginning of Hitman for free. There is a lot of love out there for Hitman and with this offering we hope that many more will fall in love with the game. We believe that this is Hitman at its best. So jump in and give a try.” – Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO.
