Sega and Sonic are about to rock Comic-Con

Posted on July 15, 2017

Sega are planning on rocking Comic-Con 2017 in San Diego with a Sonic the Hedgehog themed extravaganza, featuring demos, a free concert, a ring jumping contest and more.

Sega are an interesting company to say the least, although they had a booth at E3 it was decidedly understated showing off the upcoming Sonic games and the upcoming Yakuza releases. Their upcoming Comic-Con appearance appears to be anything but understated. Alongside playable versions of both Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces they also have a number of events planned.

Saturday kicks off with a panel featuring Takashi Iizuka (head of Sonic Team), Christian Whitehead(developer for Sonic Mania), Simon Thomley (programmer for Sonic Mania), Tom Fry (artist for Sonic Mania), and Tee Lopes (composer for Sonic Mania). Moderated by Aaron Webber (social media manager for Sonic) for a discussion about the background of Sonic Mania and its development.

There will also be a free concert featuring legendary Sonic sound director and guitarist Jun Senoue along with a special band where they will play selected songs from both classic and new Sonic games.

In addition to those; there will also be a Ring Jump contest, 360 degree Sonic Dome where a special four part story from Sonic Boom will unfold using augmented reality. The icing on the cake is an autograph session with Takashi Iizuka from Sonic Team.

Should be a good day out, I think.
