It’s been almost a year since Titanfall 2, the insanely well-received title by developer Respawn and sequel to the Xbox One launch title, was released. Whilst I’m definitely not hitting this exceptional title as hard as I did upon its launch, there’s no denying I’m still amongst the 1 million active users a month who still love and play this game. So you can only imagine my excitement when I heard that Respawn were releasing yet more new content.
Titanfall 2’s next free DLC will hit the weekend of July 25th 2017, and it’s a massive one. Its biggest feature would have to be the addition of Frontier Defense, a new 4 player co-op horde mode which sees players defending their Harvester against 5 waves of increasingly difficult enemies. Respawn have said that Frontier Defense will support 5 maps at launch and for those that played the original Titanfall is very similar to the Frontier Defense mode that was added to the first game in a post-launch update. However Titanfall 2’s next DLC dump isn’t all about Frontier Defense, also include are 2 new maps, Rise and Township.
The first map Rise is a remaster from the original game, long sight lines and tight quarters dictate the battle in this abandoned desert reservoir. The towering walls and a system of convenient zip lines provide Pilots with means to get around quickly while Titans do battle in the long corridors below. Pilots can also set up ambushes in the guts of the complex pipeworks, while Titans can lock down large sections of the battlefield at critical junctures. Tread carefully.
The second map Township is an entirely new map which focuses on more Pilot vs Pilot gameplay. A new modular construction of a residential firefight. Cover is sparse for Pilots bold enough to leave the safety of a few houses. Windows and rooftops decide who controls the map, but dense interiors can always hold surprises.
Last but by no means least there’ll also be a few new cosmetic items to help us ‘Pimp yo Titan’. These new elite warpaints for your Titans and weapons will not only look good but will offer you and your team a 10% chance to earn a double XP token at the end of a match, and grants a merit boost. It’s worth noting that the Titan Warpaints will give you and your teammates an XP boost in Frontier Defense. The weapon skins are available in a bundle to start with until August 28th, after which they will have to be purchased separately. The Titan Warpaints however are only available until August 28. For more information on the upcoming DLC and all of its inclusions head over to the Titanfall 2 website here and check it out for yourself.
With July 25th just around the corner, I simply can’t contain my excitement for Frontier Defense. So if after reading all of this you’re still not as excited as I am, why not watch the trailer below and join me in feeling the hype!
