It has been revealed at Gamescom that Age of Empires IV is currently in development for Windows 10 PC. Relic Entertainment, creators of the Company of Heroes series, are at the helm of the project. This is because original series creator, Ensemble Studio, closed down in 2009. Check out the announcement trailer below!
Featuring a gorgeous painted art style, the trailer depicts many different empires that could feature in the game. These include Native Americans, British Redcoats, Roman legionnaires, Japanese samurai, and a seafaring race I can’t put my finger on. Let’s hope these factions will all be included in the game proper, and not sold as separate packs.
This announcement comes on the heels of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, the remaster of the original game that was announced at the PC Gaming Show at E3, which now has an October 19, 2017 release date. Alongside today’s reveal of Age of Empires IV was the news that Age of Empires 2 and 3 were also getting the remaster treatment.
The hype is real. Age of Empires has returned in a triumphant way. You can sign up to be part of the “Age Insider” program and keep up with the development of the series on the Age of Empires official website. Here’s hoping they can capture the magic of the first few entries with the new Age of Empires IV!
