Good Shepherd Entertainment and independent developer CreativeForge Games have just revealed their latest and most ambitious game yet, Phantom Doctrine. A turn-based tactical Cold War espionage game for consoles and Windows PC.
Phantom Doctrine is an alternate history thriller set in 1983 during the Cold War, player will lead the cabal, a secret organisation dedicated to fighting a global conspiracy. Committed to controlling the world by pitting world leaders and nations against each other, deception is the great equaliser.
In your path to world domination you will ruthlessly interrogate enemies and allies alike, brainwashing or making double agents, saboteurs or unwitting collaborators along the way. Develop and defend your base of operations, recruit agents from the world’s many factions, and research new tech to give your operatives the advantage. The games campaign missions offer sprawling tactical encounters that revolve around two key pillars: stealth and explosive, or all-out attacks. Your team of operatives can be deployed into the field either fully armed or disguised as civilians, allowing them the ability to infiltrate dangerous areas undetected at the expense of heavy weapons and armour though.
Featuring next-generation turn-based combat, unprecedented flexibility of movement and actions, variable overwatch modes and assault-oriented breaching ability Phantom Doctrine offers a replayable, modular campaign with an array of mechanics to ensure a unique and markedly different playthrough each time. From customisable operatives, generated character names and backgrounds, modular and algorithmically populated maps, randomised intelligence snippets to two main story lines to choose from. Either a KGB counter intelligence operative or a CIA wet work commando who have to come to grips with the truth and challenge the conspiracy. It all seems a bit like Spy vs Spy for grown ups.
Phantom Doctrine will be a must for tactical turn based genre fans and those with a keen interest in spies and conspiracy theories. Available sometime 2018 for consoles and PC, if you’re as intrigued as we are about this game then head on over to Phantom Doctrines GOG or Steam pages and see what clues you turn up!
