Square Enix have revealed at Gamescom something they were keeping very quiet about: a remake of classic RPG, Secret of Mana for PC, PS4 and PS Vita, releasing early next year.
Originally released for Super Nintendo in 1993, the game follows main characters Randi, Primm and Popoi. According to the official announcement, Secret of Mana “retains its long-held charm while incorporating improvements such as upgraded gameplay for modern platforms and a newly arranged musical score.” Check out the trailer below.
This is the first time the game has seen such a large graphical upgrade. It was re-released on mobile devices back in 2010, and featured as part of a collection on the Nintendo Switch in Japan only as part of the Seiken Densetsu Collection. This does make me wonder why this remake of a game that was originally Nintendo exclusive is now not even being released on the Switch when it launches, as it seems like a perfect fit both historically and stylistically.
Regardless, this is exciting news for RPG fans everywhere; there’s even a pre-order bonus available where Square Enix is offering Moogle and Tiger costumes for all three heroes as DLC.
Secret of Mana is scheduled for release on PC, PS4 and PS Vita on February 15th, 2018. You can find out more here.
