An all-new Capcom Puzzle Fighter coming to mobile devices

An all-new Puzzle Fighter is coming to iOS and Android devices in 2017.  Select regions will receive the game first, followed by a late 2017 worldwide release.  This classic Capcom battle puzzler has been redeveloped by Capcom Vancouver featuring characters from various Capcom games including Ryu, Ken, Blanka, M. Bison and Chun-Li (Street Fighter), X (Mega Man), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Frank West (Dead Rising), Dante (Devil May Cry)  and Haggar (Final Fight).

Puzzle Fighter is the sequel of the 1996 game Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (thank you Capcom for making the title simpler), which featured characters from the Street Fighter and Darkstalkers franchises.

Puzzle Fighter features

For those who haven’t played Puzzle Fighter, it follows the familiar and simple format of building gems, then destroying them using a special crash gem which destroys all gems of that colour, adding gems to your opponent’s screen.  The larger the cluster of gems, the higher the ‘combo’ and can result in a rather fantastic and devastating fashion at the detriment to your opponent.  Let’s just say winning in this game is very satisfying.

The added dimension to Puzzle Fighter comes with choosing characters, as each has their own strengths and weaknesses.  In this new version, you can even choose two assist characters to further enhance your character and cause mayhem upon your opponent.  You can even customise your character with cute costumes, for no other reason than to make the game more cute.

Puzzle Fighter features

As you might have guessed, you are able to battle against real opponents in this mobile game.  Although this is what this game is designed for, there promises to be a single player mode with a hopefully advanced AI (the original was pretty unforgiving at its highest difficulty).

Those lucky enough to be currently attending PAX West 2017 in Seattle can play a demo of this new game.  For the rest of us, we can preview the new graphics and gameplay in the teaser trailer below:
