The Original Xbox launched with a controller that was pretty infamous in its time for being absolutely massive. it didn’t take long before the controller was superseded by the ‘Xbox Controller S’ which closely resembles the Xbox controller design we know today. But there are many a fan of the original controller design, that has been affectionately labelled “The Duke” and with the introduction of Xbox Backwards compatibility to the Xbox One, there has been a push to see a re-release of this monster of a controller.
Seamus Blackley, a designer on the Original Xbox team lead the charge to bring The Duke into the current age. After a collaboration with peripherals manufacturer Hyperkin, we’re now looking at a fully Xbox One and Windows 10 compatible Xbox Duke controller that will be available to consumers.

The biggest hurdle for Blackley and Hyperkin may now be out of the way with the current Xbox team & Microsoft approving and certifying the designer and product.
The new Duke is going to feature a sweet display on its face where the Xbox logo was originally situated. Blackley tweeted a short clip of the screen in action showing the original Xbox boot sequence. I don’t know about you, but I certainly got chills!
I can finally show my miserable OLED mockup. #DUKE #XBOXE3 everyone should thank @Hyperkin @XboxP3 @Shpeshal_Ed pic.twitter.com/U4wOhSsGKp

There’s no word yet on a price or availability, but if you’re a fan of the original Xbox and hold some affection and/or nostalgia for this absolute beast of a controller, this is certainly something to keep your eyes on.
