Sony have surprised us all by announcing a new multi-platform publishing arm: Unties. Operated by Sony Music Entertainment, the label is said to be focusing on smaller titles and bringing them to multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and PC. The name “Unties” seems to be a metaphor for untying Sony’s exclusivity to its PlayStation platform, a clever and apt naming convention.
The first announced game being published under the Unties label is Tiny Metal, a turn based tactical RPG similar to Advance Wars, and is due out on November 21, 2017. Tiny Metal will launch on PlayStation 4, as well as PC and Nintendo Switch. You can watch the trailer from PAX West below.
A number of other action titles are currently in the pipeline for Unties, including Last Standard, Merkava Avalanche and Deemo Reborn. Last Standard and Merkava will be released on PS4 and other platforms, while Deemo Reborn is a PS4 title with PSVR support. No release date for this batch of games has been announced, but it is good to see the Unties label launch with a decent roster of games under its belt.
While this is a big leap forward in Sony’s cooperation with other platforms, something tells me it will be a long time before we see a Sony published title on the Xbox.
