In some unexpectedly cool news, Scribblenauts is back with the next title in the franchise; the multiplayer party focused Scribblenauts Showdown.
Taking the concept of Scribblenauts and turning it into a party game with friends seems like a completely logical decision. For those unaware of the series, the game focuses on the players creativity and imagination, as you enter in words of objects, including people, to help figure out a range of platforming puzzles and scenarios.
For example, if there is a monster, you could type in “Sword”. Or “Gun”. Or “T-Rex”. The franchise has always stood out with a truly zany amount of options that can be imagined to appear right in front of you, and feels perfectly suited to a quickfire multiplayer atmosphere.
Scribblenauts Showdown will include two new game modes; the first, Showdown, has up to four players face off and imagine their way to victory through card-based strategy and creative skill. This seems sort of Mario Party-esque, with a board game style map showing player progress. The second, Versus, has two players going head-to-head in more than 25 mini-games. These mini-games can all be played in single player too but with a mate sounds like the better option.
Sandbox mode makes a return as well, which is essentially an open playground to mess around in, creative objects and watch them interact in unexpected ways. The dictionary in this new edition will have over thirty thousand words that you can draw from, which is going to make for an experience that will last for as long as your imagination is switched on. I have very fond memories of this franchise, especially when it was paired with the Wii U back in the day (as the handheld screen lent itself well to the concept).
Scribblenauts Showdown will be released for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One on March 7th. Check out the trailer below!
