Nintendo love doing things their own way, and this is never more clearly pronounced than during a Nintendo Direct, since it essentially announces their top upcoming projects in one neat little package. I am super psyched to announce that this year fans of the popular Nintendo DS rhythm role playing game The World Ends With You Final Remix is getting a stylised reboot and new content for the Nintendo Switch!
Nintendo have stated that The World Ends With You Final Mix will be more than just a simple port from the DS. It will have new features including the option to use either your touch screen, like in the original release, or use your joy-con controllers. There will also be an additional epilogue scenario players will receive that adds more depth to the, already rich, story – something I am super excited about.
For those unfamiliar with The World Ends With You, the tale takes place in modern day Shibua, Japan and revolves around a young man named Neku. Through a series unfortunate circumstances, Neku ends up being forced to play a game that will grant him his life, which was lost when he died.
Having been originally released onto the Nintendo DS in 2007, The World Ends With You could have easily flown under the radar, but instead amassed quite a cult following (myself included) and still remains a popular Nintendo title, which makes this the perfect game to “Remix”. It blended some great RPG elements, slick combat and a real focus on fashion and trends in Japan that is still charming to this day. The soundtrack alone is absolutely perfect and I can not wait to see how much of the game they will be touching up for a more modern handheld console.
No official release date has been announced, but The World Ends With You Final Remix has been slated for a 2018 release on the Nintendo Switch, so keep your ears open for it!
