Here’s a bit of a surprise. Focus Home Interactive and Deck13 have just revealed over on their Facebook page that The Surge will be getting a sequel arriving to PC and consoles in 2019.
The Surge is a sci-fi action RPG that has been heavily likened to the Souls series of games. Releasing back in 2017 the game was actually quite well loved amongst those who played it, featuring the tough-as-nails combat of Dark Souls but in an interesting new setting. The Surge also opened up new gameplay mechanics such as the ability to hack off enemy limbs to use as parts for your own armour and weaponry. Our review of the game suggested that The Surge “pleasantly surprised at every turn… with a more modern take and a clear visual identity that sets it apart from the crowd.”
The announcement, as seen above, doesn’t dive into too much detail about the upcoming game. Although it does mention “larger and more ambitious level design, more brutal combat, and an expanded limb-targeting system” which sounds equal parts amazing and horrifying.
The Surge 2 is set to launch at a currently undisclosed date in 2019. Be sure to check back for more details on the game as it is revealed.
