One of Nintendo’s more recently released successful franchises is getting some much deserved love with a new 3.0 version! That’s right my little Inklings, Splatoon 2 has announced a game update set for late April. Already full of fun and whimsy, what more could this splatterfest offer to its fans? Watch the Nintendo Direct trailer for Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion to find out!
First, on the long list of new features is the addition of over one hundred new outfits to dress your Inklings in which all have their own unique style and look to suit just about every kind of player. Next up is the expansion of playable stages including the Piranha Pit, Camp Trigger Fish, and Wahoo World, each with its own set of obstacles to surmount during a match. For those players who enjoy a challenging match against their online peers then Rank X (which is a step up from S+) is on its way with more details to be announced at a later date.
The highlight of the Octo Expansion has to be the addition of a single player campaign mode that introduces Octoling “Agent 8” to the world of Splatoon. The trailer starts off with Agent 8 waking up in an empty subway station before making her way through a stationary train passing several menacing looking Octolings and few other mysterious characters. Gameplay footage is also showcased in the trailer and it looks super fun with both small and large scale enemies to take on, as well as various stage hazards that will take some quick thinking to overcome.
The subterranean world consists of 80 test facilities connected by an underground subway, which Agent 8 will have to explore and complete missions in. The campaign mode will shed new light on some of Splatoon’s regular characters such as Cap’n Cuttlefish, Pearl, and Marina. The trailer even goes so far as to state ” you may think you know everything about the world of Splatoon, but these waters run deep and so does the lore”. Once the campaign mode is completed players will be able to play online multiplayer rounds as an Octoling!
While Splatoon 2 is available now, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion is slated for world wide release this April 2018, so fans are going to have to wait just a little longer. What has you psyched about the new update most? Sound off in the comments below.
