PlayStation celebrates International Women’s Day with artwork by Maja-Lisa Kehlet Hasen

Posted on March 8, 2018

Today is a very important day. Because today, March 8th, is International Women’s Day. Every year, International Women’s Day recognises the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. This years theme was chosen as ‘Time Is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives.’ and whilst we may be in the world of gaming there’s definitely no denying that women in games have had important roles to play.  Not only have they been activists in transforming  other women’s lives through the roles they’ve played, but women in games have also been activists in the paths they have forged in the industry and the inspiring works they have created.

To mark the important date Sony has teamed up with the extremely talented artist Maja-Lisa Kehlet Hansen from the team over at Media Molecule, you might know them as the creative genius’s behind LittleBigPlanet and the soon to be released Dreams. Maja-Lisa has created an absolutely stunning, and in my opinion breath taking, PS4 theme featuring some of PlayStation’s most iconic female characters.

PS4 International Women's Day Theme

The artwork, which has been transformed into a PS4 console theme, is available to download today from PlayStation Store for free and we highly suggest you do so as it’s one you wont want to miss out on!

As well as taking the time to create this beautiful theme PlayStation also visited some of its biggest game studios to talk to the incredibly talented women who play integral roles in crafting the games we all know and love. The cast of influential women speak about their passions and their thoughts on the industry.

The video features Guerrilla Games Angie Smets and Siobhan Reddy, one of our very own Aussie’s, from Media Molecule to name just a few. We here at team Checkpoint couldn’t be happier to see the changing face of this growing industry on such an important day!
