In an announcement on the 26th of March, Pokémon GO developer Niantic detailed their upcoming update to the game, which adds daily missions and may allow players to encounter and capture the legendary pokémon Mew.
“A series of mysterious happenings is occurring all over the world, and Professor Willow is seeking Trainers to help him find out if this is connected to the Mythical Pokémon Mew. These research tasks will become available to Trainers around the world later this week!”
The update will see Pokémon GO players undertaking two types of daily research tasks to help Professor Willow.
- Field Research missions, which can be revealed by activating PokéStops, will consist of familiar activities such as catching pokémon or participating in raids. Completing them will net you items and encounters with certain pokémon, with more difficult missions resulting in better rewards.
- Special Research missions, these will also produce rewards, but will have the added bonus of advancing you through the story, taking you closer to finding the mysterious Mew.
There won’t be a limit to how many missions you can do in a day, so adventure to your heart’s content. Complete at least one mission in a day to receive a stamp. Collecting seven stamps will give you a Research Breakthrough, which will give you even greater rewards. As players complete these research tasks they’ll come closer to discovering the mystery behind Mew, and even possibly encountering the legendary pokémon itself.
Pokémon GO has had an interesting history with consumers but hopefully this update, which is due to take effect on March 30th, will help bring some lost players back into the fold. You can find more information about Pokemon GO and the update on the Official website.
